WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

  • All hypnosis is self hypnosis, the hypnotist is the operator and the client is the co-operator.

  • The hypnotist puts the mind to rest so positive suggestions are easier to absorb by the unconscious mind.

IS HYPNOSIS LIKE MEDITATION?

  • Hypnosis is different from meditation:  In meditation you are trained to observe thoughts and let them go, you learn to practice non attachment to thoughts and this is very useful. With hypnosis however we have a goal in mind and are working towards something. With hypnosis we aim to change thoughts and patterns, whereas with meditation you are instructed just to notice them.

WHAT IS TRANCE?

  • Trance is an everyday experience (like when fully absorbed in a movie or book,, or when driving without paying much attention to the driving.) In trance one becomes open to suggestion because the conscious mind is de-potentiated and this allows suggestions to plant like seeds in the garden of your mind.

WHY THE EMPHASIS ON THE UNCONSCIOUS MIND?

  • Freedom begins in your mind, in your subconscious mind to be precise. All your beliefs, emotions, imagination, habits, values, protective mechanisms and reactions, creativity and intuition reside here. Research in neuroscience shows that the unconscious mind runs the show and that. we backward rationalise our choices. The chances are that if you're stuck, it's likely its because your emotions are getting in the way. Hypnosis addresses the unconscious mind and uses more creative ways of addressing the issue.

WHAT ABOUT WILL POWER?

  • Will power is a conscious process and is a limited resource governed by how much glucose is in your system and how much sleep you have had (unless of course you train with the SAS or Navy seals.) Most folks know from experience that will power does not tend to deliver what you want long term. Like a rider on an elephant, the conscious mind thinks it is doing the steering and has the animal under control, but when the elephant (the unconscious mind) sees a mouse and gets startled, it gallops off the path and the rider has lost all control. At least 90% of your decisions are unconsciously made and then we backward rationalise decisions after the fact (oftentimes in milliseconds.) It make logical sense to use hypnosis to address the unconscious mind does it not? Otherwise I could just tell you to quit smoking or lose weight and you would right?

WHAT DO THE ACADEMICS SAY?

  • The academics describe hypnosis in many ways: a place of heightened suggestibility, selective focus, altered states, trance states, amplified learning.

WILL I BE ASLEEP?

  • You will be more aware and awake than you might think, its hyper focus, however trance can feel very dreamy like just before you wake up or before you go to sleep. Only my insomnia clients fall asleep during sessions. :)

HOW MANY SESSION DO I NEED?

  • Never more than 6, and sometimes only one. We usually get success with 3. It depends on a variety of factors.
